Since its inception, the Odebrecht Foundation focuses on contributing to the formation of a structured population in family units, responsible for its own sustainable development. In projects supported, encourages the participation of youth as active subject, co-author, multiplier agent and promoter of social action. Protagonists of their destinies, these young people will constitute a new generation educated, healthy and structured for productive life, promoting, on an ongoing basis, their self-development.
The decision to make with the young and not for the young, considering it as part of the solution and not as a problem, was later conceptualized, systematized, and named Youth Protagonism, training philosophy that Odebrecht Foundation helped to create what is today a heritage Third Sector.
The set of actions, now concentrated in Southern Bahia Lowlands, rests on five pillars:
•The systematic practice of democracy, leading to daily the constitutional principle that power emanates from the people and is exercised by them;
• Governance, understood as actions coordinated, integrated and synergistic of First, Second and Third Sectors, involving - through partnerships - the different spheres of Government, Private Sector and Civil Society Organizations;
• Regional development, due to the fact that communities living in a geographically well-defined territory and who share a history and culture, having aspirations about the future;
• The four capitals, described therein the Environmental Capital, the Productive Capital, Human Capital and Social Capital, which must evolve harmonious and complementary;
• Last but not least, the awareness that the family is the cell generation mater of moral and material wealth of society and that in it, the Adolescents and Young play the role of agents and actors of transformation.
This awareness becomes the belief that there are many young talents, but not the opportunities for that talent can flourish and be realized. To help ensure that these opportunities are created is the challenge of the Odebrecht Foundation.
